Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCOV) Update February 7, 2020

On Friday, February 7, the Ministry of Health issued an orange DORSCON alert. I would like to share some changes to The Club's risk management procedures starting Saturday, February 8.

Enforcement of Travel and Health Declaration Forms
Travel and Health Declaration Forms will be strictly enforced for Members and guests entering The Club. If you are planning to come to The Club, please complete the Declaration Form.

Temperature Checks
Thermal scanners will be deployed at the Claymore Road and Scotts Road entrances and thermal screening will be implemented at the car park and turnstile entrances. All Members and guests will proceed through a temperature check upon entering The Club.

Anyone who runs a temperature over 37.8 degrees C will be requested to wait in the Guest Waiting area and have their temperature taken again after a 10-minute waiting period. If temperature remains above 37.8 degrees C, The Club protocol for managing such situations will be applied and this includes requesting the person to wait in a designated Holding Room (more information below).

As a result of the above enhanced precautionary measures, Members and guests can expect to take a slightly longer time to enter The Club. To expedite entry, Members and guests are strongly advised to submit the Travel and Health Declaration Form online. We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to prioritize your safety and minimize disruptions.

Streamlined Entry Points
To facilitate temperature checks via the thermal scanners, all Club staff will be entering The Club via the Scotts Road Member entrance.

Please be advised that the Scotts Road entrance will be open from 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Please proceed to the Claymore Road entrances at times outside that window.

Holding Room
A holding room has been established for any suspect cases of the Novel Coronavirus. The holding room is disinfected regularly by a dedicated housekeeping team wearing personal protective equipment.

Suspension of Club-organized Events and Contact Sports
All large-scale events and contact sports organized by The Club will be suspended. This includes the Galbraith Ballroom brunch, taekwondo and aikido classes. For other large-scale events that have been publicized and for which reservations have been taken, The Club will send out specific communication on event cancellation.

Suspension of Cancellation Fees for Private Event Bookings
To support the membership during this period, The Club is adopting a more flexible policy on Banquet event bookings. Members that are uncomfortable moving forward with scheduled events can provide one week notice (previously 30 days, as it represents opportunity forgone) to defer or reschedule any reservations with no financial penalty. If the provided notice is six days or less, a cancellation fee may apply as The Club may already have incurred event preparation cost.

Greater Flexibility for Club-organized Classes
Members that are uncomfortable attending or sending their children to Club classes, activities or events can cancel or reschedule any reservations with no financial penalty.

Staff Safety Measures
All Club staff continue to be temperature screened daily and will not be reporting for work if unwell. All Security, Concierge and Spa teams, as well as staff doing temperature screening, will be issued surgical masks for their protection.

As a community, we can all come together and contribute to keeping The Club a safe place. Please practice good hygiene, make use of the hand sanitizing stations around the Clubhouse and follow the MOH health precautions below. Do not come to The Club if you or your family are feeling unwell, or have been in Mainland China or have had prolonged interaction with visitors from Mainland China in the last 14 days.

Disinfectant Cleaning

The Club has stepped up on disinfectant cleaning throughout the Clubhouse. Public spaces and surfaces are disinfected regularly. Additional twice daily disinfecting has been implemented throughout The Quad.

Precautionary Measures

As of Friday, January 31, the US Department of State has issued a level 4 travel alert advising against any travel to China (click here for more information).

As of Monday, January 27, MOH advises travelers to defer all nonessential travel to Mainland China (click here for more information). 

MOH recommends the following precautions to protect yourself:


  • - practice good hygiene, wash hands and sanitize frequently
  • - avoid contact with people that are unwell or showing signs of illness
  • - avoid contact with live animals
  • - avoid eating raw and undercooked meat
  • - if you feel sick, please see a doctor immediately

Disease Outbreak Response System Condition (DORSCON)
